The best is yet to come...

This has been a monumental year for Public Safety.  Superstorms, firefighter location technology, other innovations, and of course, the D-block have made 2012 an exciting moment in telecommunications history.

Twelve months ago, the future of the D-block spectrum was uncertain, and the possibility of a nationwide Public Safety Broadband network was not yet on the table as a reality.  Today, we have the First Responder Network Authority working at top speed to build out this dream, and all of the advocacy and hard work has paid off.  The work's not done yet, though, and agencies are currently preparing for this big step.

The meteorological nightmare called Hurricane Sandy took the East coast by storm, no pun intended, and put hundreds of response agencies to the test.  New technologies are making everyone safer, with the new sophisticated firefighter GPS location products, high RF "Doomsday-Proof" Intrado solution, and DHS's recent work with batteries thin enough to slip into fabric.  Large strides have been made this year in Text-to-911, as well as the possibility of a universal emergency number in the works.

What will 2013 hold for our industry?  We will certainly see more steps toward the NPSBN from FirstNet, more innovative technology, and new ways to implement it for Public Safety.  We can only keep working and keep in mind our primary objective to keep citizens and first responders safe.
