FCC Blocks LightSquared Network

The FCC blocked LightSquared's proposed nationwide wireless network on Tuesday due to interference issues with existing GPS devices. 

This is a victory for GPS advocates such as the Coalition to Save Our GPS and others, after long months of fighting to ensure the operations of GPS devices and safety of first responders who rely upon them.

The decision came as a surprise to many, especially LightSquared, whose spokespeople have repeatedly dismissed the NTIA's conclusion and recently said they expected the FCC to push the network through to implementation.  The next and only option for LightSquared now is to take the issue to court, because the FCC is the final authority on whether or not they can proceed.
