Democratic National Convention's LTE Plans Dashed

The Democratic National Convention has been affected in the recent freeze on all Federally-funded LTE projects as mandated by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).

The City of Charlotte, NC will be the temporary home to thousands of attendees of the DNC starting September 3.  City officials say they had planned to have their LTE project go live this month, but thanks to the NTIA's mandate the City had to scramble to make other arrangements to deliver Public Safety services to citizens and guests.

The NTIA's decision to halt work on LTE across the nation was intended to allow the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) board to be appointed and established in order to preserve valuable resources that might be lost on incompatible fixed network equipment.

The cost to restart the project goes up, according to city officials, and currently deployed project teams assigned to the City's project have to be redirected to other projects while LTE remains in limbo.
