Do you get the Secret List?

The EMR family takes its work very seriously, and considers it a privilege to help keep safe those who keep us safe.  As part of the Public Safety community, we keep up on industry news but we also keep a finger on the pulse of our first responders and their triumphs and losses.  A member of our staff came across FireFighterCloseCalls.com, an independent advocacy watchdog website for firefighters, and home of "The Secret List."

The Secret List is a newsletter detailing names, places, and circumstances surrounding firefighter fatalities with daily updates and news reports.  This list also informs readers on scams, unsupported/unofficial fundraisers, unfair treatment of firefighters by departments or governments, and in turn helps firefighters defend themselves against marginalization.

The site itself hosts articles and info of interest.  One such piece, for example, exposes a department that has been less than respectful to the widow of one of their fallen bretheren.  Are failing to handover the uniform, possible misuse of memorial funds, and general hostility cause for action or even an investigation?  Read it here and decide for yourself.

Make no mistake, this site is not an objective news source, it is an advocacy site for firefighters who put their lives on the line every day.  If you're looking for news in the firefighter community from the firefighter's perspective, this is a great resource.

If your fire department does not already get the Secret List, we recommend that you sign up.  Clearly, their hearts are in the right place and they are doing something important.
