Agencies love to make big announcements at APCO. In addition to the announcement of the identity of the FirstNet Board Members, the NTIA shared that state and local agencies will have a $135 million planning grant opportunity, beginning next year.
The money will be used for a variety of planning purposes, such as hiring staff and consultants, paying for the cost of planning meetings, reimbursing travel, and even educating future users and officials.
There will most likely be two phases of the grant, the first to ensure that appropriate staff is in place, the second focusing on the needs in preparation for sharing input on requirements and design with the FirstNet board.
