Volunteer Tech Experts Step Up in NYC

The City of New York has implemented the first municipal program to engage volunteer tech experts to improve disaster preparedness initiatives.  Code Corps is an organization which includes nonprofit and private sector partners with data scientists, developers, and designers willing to partner with the city to develop solutions to serve their fellow New Yorkers.

Volunteers go through a vetting process and donate their time and expertise to serve the public by developing strategic projects and liaise with the city's Data Advisory and Research Taskforce (DART).  Projects will include new database development, Web/mobile applications, emergency information maps from City data, analysis of population impact and data sharing with other governments or critical infrastructure entities.
