Intrado Forges Ahead with Interim Text-to-911 Application

Two weeks ago we covered Intrado's new HF "Doomsday-proof" radio solution, and today we would like to share another new piece of technology they have created, which has been needed in the U.S. for years now:  an interim Text-to-911 mobile application.

Regardless of the connectivity and application capabilities of individual PSAPs, Android smartphone users with the new Intrado app, 911Link Mobile, can send a text in an emergency, which will be received by the company's emergency call relay center.  The text is then verbally relayed over the appropriate PSAP's 10-digit administrative pohne line, as opposed to the native 911 system.  That way, regardless of the capabilities of the 911 system, the message will be received.

There are very few places that can natively accept Text-to-911, so this application is a big step toward better safety and security for our nation's citizens, and better use of the technology we have available.

The app is currently only available for Android, and will be available for the iPhone OS in the second quarter of this year.
