FCC Launches Educational Website for Incentive Auctions

The FCC created an educational website for potential bidders in the upcoming incentive auctions.  The FCC's Rulemaking initiated on October 2, 2012 to auction off 700 MHz spectrum, in accordance with Public Law 112-96, also known as the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012.  This law allocated the 700 MHz D-block to Public Safety and created the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), tasked with building the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN).  Proceeds from the incentive auction will help fund this historic network.

The FCC's new Learn Everything About Reverse-Auctions Now (LEARN) Program website features many information tools, including an 11-page summary of the broadcast incentive auction process, highlighting key issues of the rulemaking proceeding for the auction.   For a basic overview of how the auction will work (dealing with Broadcasters and mobile Broadband providers), visit the Auction Design page.
