As of last week, the FCC announced that Public Safety agencies operating in the UHF T-Band (470-512 MHz) will not be subject to the Narrowbanding mandate, but all applications for new frequencies or locations or modifications to UHF T-Band systems will be suspended for acceptance and processing.
This news comes in the wake of HR3630, which allocated the D-block to Public Safety while requiring agencies to migrate off of all UHF T-Band frequencies within 9 to 11 years.
Those affected by Narrowbanding can breathe a sigh of relief that they will not be required to continue down the path of changing and upgrading infrastructure that will be obsolete long before its shelf-life.
Licensees applying to add or change frequencies, change technical parameters to expand, or any other modification that would expand the degree of use of UHF T-Band spectrum will not be accepted or granted.
