Mexico Agrees to Two New Spectrum-Sharing Agreements at the Border

According to a Public Notice released today, high-level negotiations from FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and U.S./Mexican telecommunications officials were successful in securing two new spectrum-sharing agreements that will enable advanced Public Safety and Commercial communications in the border area.

The new 800 MHz Protocol replaces a previous agreement, allowing for rebanding to be completed along the U.S.-Mexico border.  Sprint Nextel Corporation will have the ability to deploy CDMA service thanks to the new 1.9 GHz Protocol.
